Feast, 2021
The painting "Feast" was written on the verses of the Latvian poet Elmar Rumba (Elmārs Augusts Rumba, 1931-2017):
"Lamu vārdiem pilnas lāmas.
Pārēdušies kungi kāri, tā kā izsalkuši vilki, visiem krīt pie rīkles,
līdzi jūtot, gaudo ilgi, žēlabaini.
Niknas, tā kā mežonīgas kuces,
smalkas dāmas uzrej, uzsmaida un kungu ēnā veikli nagus pucē."
A monumental canvas representing a vivid allegory of the modern political landscape in Latvia. The satirical imagery is based on lines by poet E.A. Rumba, which despite their age resonate strikingly with today's realities.
The composition centers on a "feast" scene in the Saeima hall, where wolf-deputies divide a "pie" shaped as Latvia's flag, ready to tear apart the national symbol for immediate gain.
Other political figures appear in witty zoomorphic images. The fox who lost elections still sneaks through a parliament window. Neighboring bears casually feast against a ravaged forest backdrop. A pig-deputy lines his pockets near a garbage dump.
Mercilessly ridiculing the vices of the powerful, the artist calls for the awakening of civic consciousness - a daring and important artistic statement that compels reflection on the future.
